10,000 kg less plastic in the Mediterranean

Challenge: Moving towards a cleaner future

Bezoya for the Oceans, direct action to reduce plastic in the oceans

The seas surrounding Spain, the Mediterranean, Cantabrian and Atlantic, are suffering from severe plastic pollution. According to WWF, 95% of floating waste in the Mediterranean is plastic, mainly packaging and abandoned fishing nets that put marine biodiversity at risk.

Bezoya is a pioneering water brand in sustainability and, since 2022, through the Bezoya Commitment, it has been using 100% recycled plastic in all its bottles. In 2025, it aims to take a new step by acting on plastic waste that has not been given a second life and has ended up in the sea.

Solution

The “Bezoya for the Oceans” commitment

To tackle this challenge, Bezoya joined Gravity Wave’s Plastic Free Oceans movement, giving rise to the “Bezoya for the Oceans” project, whose goal is to remove more than 10,000 kilos of plastic waste and fishing nets from the Mediterranean, the Cantabrian and the Atlantic, as well as from coastal areas.

Starting in July 2025, the collection operation began in collaboration with local fishing communities, which, together with Gravity Wave, will incorporate plastic collection into their daily work at sea. This joint working model not only cleans the seas, but also strengthens the local economy and promotes sustainable collaboration.

In this way, Bezoya collaborates with Gravity Wave to close the sustainability loop by collecting plastic from our oceans. The ambition? To collect as much plastic as possible that has not had a second life and has ended up in the sea.

Impact

Creating environmental and social value

Bezoya for the Oceans drives active cleaning of seas and ports, contributing to the recovery of marine ecosystems and the reduction of plastic pollution. With this project, Bezoya continues to move forward in its commitment to sustainability, with the aim of caring for our oceans and moving towards a cleaner future.

In addition, the project also generates social impact by involving fishers and coastal communities, creating new opportunities and raising awareness in society about the importance of protecting the seas. In this way, Bezoya continues to champion plastic circularity through its four pillars: Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Recover.
