Environmental impact has always been communicated as a final figure. We have built what lies behind it: a digital record that tracks plastic, nets and ropes from the exact point where they are collected, at sea and in ports.

A number is not proof.
A company funds the removal of 10,000 kg of plastic from the Mediterranean and, months later, receives a report with a figure. Where did it come from? Which port, on what day, who weighed it and where did the material end up?
That information exists, but it is scattered among fishers, transport companies, processing facilities and spreadsheets. Reconstructing it afterwards is slow and difficult to substantiate.
This is not a record organised by campaign or mission: every collection across the network enters the same history, no matter how much it contributes.

We do not track companies or departments: we track the material. Every time it moves, is weighed or changes hands, it is recorded in its own history.
Captured where it happens
The collector records the collection at the port itself, using a mobile phone: photograph, GPS location, weight and operator. Before anything is moved.

Each capture becomes a record with its own unique identifier, date, time and weight. It is not edited afterwards: it is added to the history.

What traceability does — and what it does not.
Technology strengthens transparency, but the quality of the result still depends on the work and evidence behind it. We prefer to make that clear before anyone has to ask.
What it does
- Record what happens to the material: where, when, at what weight and with what evidence.
- Connect collections, routes, ports, waste managers and facilities in a single history.
- Preserve the evidence for each event instead of scattering it across different systems.
- Enable a report to be generated from the record, not from a spreadsheet.
What it cannot do on its own
- It does not automatically guarantee that all the information entered is correct.
- It does not verify environmental impact on its own: it documents it.
- It does not replace auditors or certification bodies.
- It does not capture every event automatically: someone records the real work.
A system designed around the material, not around companies.
We developed our traceability model with Jörð.tech. Instead of asking each organisation to report what it has done, the system starts with the material and records what happens to it throughout collection, transport, treatment and allocation. A digital logbook for the material.
In development: a client impact dashboard, integration of historical kilogram data from before the platform, and allocation of a single collection across several programmes.
